Computer Uses and Abuse
Science has discovered many wonders and computers are one of them. It is an ultra modern electronic device for storing and analysing information fed into it. It has no capacity to do anything by itself. It works on the basis of commands given by the operator.
Computer was not invented overnight. It took a long time and hard labour to invent a computer. Many votaries of science worked hard. Thus computer is the result of the hard labour of many votaries of science. First of all Pascal invented the theory of “Digital Calculating System” in 1642. Though his attempts were not crowned with success, he initiated the research which paved the way to the invention of the computer. Finally Mr.Howard Akin, an American scientist invented such a machine in 1937 that could do difficult sums. So the credit for the the invention of the modern computer goes to Howard Akin. After seven years electronic computer was used in Harvard University in 1944. After that many other computers have been invented such as EDSAC in 1945 and ENTRANCE in 1946 etc.
A computer consists of five major components. They are the input unit, the output unit, the memory unit, the control unit and the arithmetic unit. A computer performs three functions: 1. It receives data, 2. It processes data by various computations, 3. It emits data.
Every computer has a machine language of its own and accordingly a computer functions. Machine language is not fixed. It varies from machine to machine. Programmes written in machine languages are machine dependent and they are only good for that particular machine.
Computer is of great use to us. It renders great service to mankind. It It is like Aldin’s magic lamp or magic wand. It has lessened our work loads and made our life easy and comfortable. It is used in our daily life for various purposes.
Computer is media of education in the developed countries. The students of the developed countries use computer to prepare their study materials. They learn many things within the shortest possible time. Results of various examinations are prepared accurately with the help of computer within the shortest span of time.
Nowadays in developed countries computer is used to diagnose a disease. A newer process of operation has been invented by computer as an alternative to surgery. It is used to grind stones in normal pathological tests.
Today computer is used in the fields of agriculture in the developed countries. A farmer of America simply puts on the switch of the computer and gets everything done. Nowadays business, commerce and trade can not be thought of without computer. It does wonder. It is used to prepare documents, to make lists of goods, store information and to prepare budget etc. Management personnels use computer to take decision. The value of currency and price of any share can be known instantly by the computer. Today printing can not be thought of without computer. It is an indispensable part of printing. Thousands of books are composed with the help of computer within a very short time.
In the developed countries computer is used to run mills, factories and industries. Trains and planes are run by the computer.
Computer is a source of great income. Many developed and advanced countries export software and hardware and earn a lot.
There is no unmixed blessings on earth. Everything has its dark sides. Computer has its own demerits. It causes diseases like Repetitive Stress injury and weakens the eye sight of the operators.
Of late computer has been introduced in Bangladesh. Many government and nongovernment offices, educational institutions are using computer. A course on computer has been introduced in secondary and higher secondary levels. The day is not far to come when computers will be used in every sphere of life.
Computer is of great use to us. We can not go a single moment without computers. It is part and parcel in our daily life.
বিজ্ঞান অনেক বিস্ময় আবিষ্কার করেছে এবং কম্পিউটার তার মধ্যে একটি। এটি একটি অতি আধুনিক ইলেকট্রনিক ডিভাইস যা এতে থাকা তথ্য সংরক্ষণ ও বিশ্লেষণ করার জন্য। নিজে থেকে কিছু করার ক্ষমতা নেই। এটি অপারেটর দ্বারা প্রদত্ত কমান্ডের ভিত্তিতে কাজ করে।
কম্পিউটার রাতারাতি আবিষ্কার হয়নি। একটি কম্পিউটার আবিষ্কার করতে অনেক সময় এবং কঠোর পরিশ্রম লেগেছিল। বিজ্ঞানের অনেক ভোটার কঠোর পরিশ্রম করেছেন। সুতরাং কম্পিউটার বিজ্ঞানের অনেক ভোটারদের কঠোর পরিশ্রমের ফল। সর্বপ্রথম প্যাসকাল 1642 সালে “ডিজিটাল ক্যালকুলেটিং সিস্টেম” তত্ত্ব উদ্ভাবন করেন। যদিও তার প্রচেষ্টা সফল হয়নি, তবে তিনি গবেষণা শুরু করেছিলেন যা কম্পিউটার আবিষ্কারের পথ প্রশস্ত করেছিল। অবশেষে মিঃ হাওয়ার্ড আকিন, একজন আমেরিকান বিজ্ঞানী 1937 সালে এমন একটি মেশিন আবিষ্কার করেছিলেন যা কঠিন অঙ্ক করতে পারে। তাই আধুনিক কম্পিউটার আবিষ্কারের কৃতিত্ব হাওয়ার্ড আকিনকে যায়। সাত বছর পর 1944 সালে হার্ভার্ড বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে ইলেকট্রনিক কম্পিউটার ব্যবহার করা হয়। এর পরে আরও অনেক কম্পিউটার আবিষ্কৃত হয়েছে যেমন 1945 সালে EDSAC এবং 1946 সালে ENTRANCE ইত্যাদি।
একটি কম্পিউটার পাঁচটি প্রধান উপাদান নিয়ে গঠিত। সেগুলো হল ইনপুট ইউনিট, আউটপুট ইউনিট, মেমরি ইউনিট, কন্ট্রোল ইউনিট এবং পাটিগণিত ইউনিট। একটি কম্পিউটার তিনটি কার্য সম্পাদন করে: 1. এটি ডেটা গ্রহণ করে, 2. এটি বিভিন্ন গণনার মাধ্যমে ডেটা প্রক্রিয়া করে, 3. এটি ডেটা নির্গত করে।
প্রতিটি কম্পিউটারের নিজস্ব একটি মেশিন ভাষা আছে এবং সেই অনুযায়ী একটি কম্পিউটার কাজ করে। মেশিন ভাষা স্থির করা হয় না. এটি মেশিন থেকে মেশিনে পরিবর্তিত হয়। মেশিন ল্যাঙ্গুয়েজে লেখা প্রোগ্রামগুলি মেশিন নির্ভর এবং সেগুলি শুধুমাত্র সেই নির্দিষ্ট মেশিনের জন্য ভাল।
কম্পিউটার আমাদের অনেক কাজে লাগে। এটি মানবজাতির জন্য মহান সেবা প্রদান করে। এটি আলডিনের জাদুর প্রদীপ বা জাদুর কাঠির মতো। এটি আমাদের কাজের চাপ কমিয়েছে এবং আমাদের জীবনকে সহজ ও আরামদায়ক করেছে। এটি আমাদের দৈনন্দিন জীবনে বিভিন্ন কাজে ব্যবহৃত হয়।
উন্নত দেশে কম্পিউটার শিক্ষার মাধ্যম। উন্নত দেশের শিক্ষার্থীরা তাদের পড়াশোনার উপকরণ তৈরি করতে কম্পিউটার ব্যবহার করে। তারা অল্প সময়ের মধ্যে অনেক কিছু শিখে ফেলে। বিভিন্ন পরীক্ষার ফলাফল স্বল্পতম সময়ের মধ্যে কম্পিউটারের সাহায্যে নির্ভুলভাবে প্রস্তুত করা হয়।
বর্তমানে উন্নত দেশগুলোতে রোগ নির্ণয়ের জন্য কম্পিউটার ব্যবহার করা হয়। অস্ত্রোপচারের বিকল্প হিসাবে কম্পিউটার দ্বারা অপারেশনের একটি নতুন প্রক্রিয়া উদ্ভাবিত হয়েছে। এটি সাধারণ প্যাথলজিক্যাল পরীক্ষায় পাথর পিষে ব্যবহার করা হয়।
বর্তমানে উন্নত দেশে কৃষিক্ষেত্রে কম্পিউটার ব্যবহৃত হয়। আমেরিকার একজন কৃষক কেবল কম্পিউটারের সুইচ চালু করে এবং সবকিছু সম্পন্ন করে। আজকাল কম্পিউটার ছাড়া ব্যবসা-বাণিজ্যের কথা চিন্তাই করা যায় না। এটা আশ্চর্য না. এটি নথি তৈরি করতে, পণ্যের তালিকা তৈরি করতে, তথ্য সংরক্ষণ করতে এবং বাজেট তৈরি করতে ব্যবহার করা হয়। ব্যবস্থাপনার কর্মীরা সিদ্ধান্ত নিতে কম্পিউটার ব্যবহার করে। কম্পিউটারের মাধ্যমে যেকোনো শেয়ারের মুদ্রার মূল্য ও মূল্য তাৎক্ষণিকভাবে জানা যায়। আজ কম্পিউটার ছাড়া মুদ্রণের কথা ভাবাই যায় না। এটি মুদ্রণের একটি অপরিহার্য অংশ। খুব অল্প সময়ের মধ্যেই কম্পিউটারের সাহায্যে হাজার হাজার বই রচিত হয়।
উন্নত দেশগুলোতে কল-কারখানা ও শিল্প-কারখানা চালাতে কম্পিউটার ব্যবহার করা হয়। ট্রেন এবং প্লেন কম্পিউটার দ্বারা চালিত হয়।
কম্পিউটার অনেক আয়ের উৎস। অনেক উন্নত এবং উন্নত দেশ সফটওয়্যার এবং হার্ডওয়্যার রপ্তানি করে এবং প্রচুর আয় করে।
পৃথিবীতে কোন মিশ্র আশীর্বাদ নেই। সবকিছুরই অন্ধকার দিক আছে। কম্পিউটারের নিজস্ব ত্রুটি রয়েছে। এটি পুনরাবৃত্তিমূলক স্ট্রেস ইনজুরির মতো রোগ সৃষ্টি করে এবং অপারেটরদের চোখের দৃষ্টিশক্তি দুর্বল করে দেয়।
বাংলাদেশে দেরিতে কম্পিউটার চালু হয়েছে। অনেক সরকারি-বেসরকারি অফিস, শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠানে কম্পিউটার ব্যবহার করা হচ্ছে। মাধ্যমিক ও উচ্চ মাধ্যমিক স্তরে কম্পিউটার বিষয়ে একটি কোর্স চালু করা হয়েছে। সেই দিন খুব বেশি দূরে নয় যখন জীবনের প্রতিটি ক্ষেত্রে কম্পিউটার ব্যবহার করা হবে।
কম্পিউটার আমাদের অনেক কাজে লাগে। কম্পিউটার ছাড়া আমরা এক মুহূর্তও চলতে পারি না। এটা আমাদের দৈনন্দিন জীবনের অংশ এবং পার্সেল.
